One "cheap and cheerful" decorating tip for table top decor is taking a trip to your local bead shop...
and find one style
color/type of beads you like,
such as all shell beads, 
or all types of pearls, 
or all wood beads, 
or a color, 
such as turquoise/blue beads, etc etc 
Buy a few strands (not expensive at all) and creatively put them in a tall bowl (like the one I have from Africa)
or a vintage French or Moroccan bowl...it does not have to be expensive, just simple and creative!
Voila! Instant Decor!
